Research

This will be a page I use to disseminate recent research either conducted by myself, or others, that I find interesting or pertinent to the fields of exercise science, exercise physiology, sports medicine, biomechanics, strength and conditioning, athletic training, and performance enhancement.

Please keep mind in much of this material is copyrighted so be sure to acknowledge any use in a paper or article that you write. In the end I hope this helps all of you in achieving your goals and better understanding your body.

7/19/10 - Barefoot Running

Below is a copy of my wife's, Terrieha Romer,  masters project. She focused on the recent phenomenon of barefoot running and the benefits, risks, and research behind it. Further, she also constructed a program for those looking to introduce barefoot running into existing or new programs. Terrieha's project was designed as a guide for coaches and athletes alike. Eventually we will be turning this into a book and selling it so I'd view it for free while you can.

If you'd like additional information regarding barefoot running, Dr. Lieberman, an evolutionary biologist at Harvard University, has a great website with tons of information. Enjoy and please feel free to send feedback.

7/18/10 - Track & Field Triple Jump Research

Below is copy of my Masters thesis from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. It is focused on the triple jump event in Track & Field, and is titled "Phase Ratios and Effort Distribution of American Collegiate Triple Jumpers." The sample size included in this study was somewhat small, however, I am in the process of analyzing additional data that I recorded at later points in the season. All-in-all I should wind up with close to 45 participants. Once all of this is done, my thesis chair and I will be working on trying to get this submitted for publication. I'll post more details as they become available.
