About Me

First and foremost, I am a married, father of three furbabies (or at least thats what my wife, Terrieha, likes to say), pain in the butt son, outdoor enthusiast, and aspiring carpenter; however, most people know me as a coach or athlete. For most of my life I've been involved in athletic events or fitness as either a participant, organizer or coach. This has granted me the opportunity to meet a number of great people, learn a great deal, and see things I never thought possible.

After graduating with my bachelors degree from the University of Florida in 2005, I decided I needed some time away from school in order to get a better grasp on my ultimate career aspirations. I had spent most of life, and time at UF, anticipating that I would be attending law school but after spending some time around practicing lawyers, I was no longer sure that law school was the right fit. Luckily, fate had already started playing its hand. In mid-2007, I found myself in the position of being offered the role as the executive director for a non-profit youth athletic league in Colorado Springs, which also happened to be home to the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, which offered a Masters Degree in Sports Medicine and opportunities with the National Strength & Conditioning Association. This was of importance to my wife and I, due to our interest in coaching, exercise science, and athletic development.

During my time in Colorado I was able to successfully coach in a variety of high school and collegiate venues, as well as learn from a number of great coaches. This included serving as the Head Coach for James Irwin Track & Field and Cross Country, a Graduate Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach for UCCS, and volunteer strength and conditioning coach at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. After my wife and I finished our graduate classes in May of 2009, both my wife and I were offered coaching positions at Northwestern State University in Louisiana. While I served as the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for several of the schools Division-I teams (Baseball, Womens Basketball, Softball, and Women's Tennis), I also served as an assistant coach for the Women's Track & Field sprint program, while my wife served as the head coach for Women's distance program. As great as this experience was (including winning the 2010 Southland Conference regular season and tournament Title), my thirst for learning, interest in sports, the body, and medicine spurned me to pursue my doctorate in biomechancis at Auburn University.

While this blog will be about a lot of things, I am most comfortable as, and will probably always see myself first as, a coach and mentor. Thus, it is my hope that my blog will serve as source of information for people considering graduate school, looking for reliable information regarding fitness, nutrition, or training, and an outlet for my own daily musings. I'll likely refer to my wifes blog extremely often, as she is a great cook and consistently discovers new and tasty treats to spoil my palate with.

In the end, I hope everyone is able to get as much out of reading my blog as I'm able to get out of writing it.
